Talking to your Groomer
Talk to your groomer and go into as much detail as possible about what you want or need and why. Don’t assume your groomer knows exactly what you want because you said, short, long, shaved, trim, puppy cut, summer cut, named a particular breed cut (even yours) or a type of cut you heard about, saw, or was done somewhere else.
The lingo used and it's meanings can be different from shop to shop, groomer to groomer and person to person and have varied meanings. If there is something particularly important to you make sure it is mentioned during drop off.
Groomers are frequently told someone doesn't want their pet 'shaved' while the person is clearly describing a type of haircut. Is the person saying they do not want to see skin? Are they saying that they want the hair a certain length that is in the image in their head and not necessarily the groomers? Or are they saying that they do not want clippers used at all and want the haircut accomplished with scissors only? A full hand scissor cut is also often charged differently and tends to cost more.
How is your groomer to know what that picture in your head is without more details when each of their customers uses the same terms but each client can mean something entirely different? |

Some very common and often used terms in a grooming shop may be a teddy bear, summer cut (may be year round) or puppy cut. Please remember these are general terms and don’t have a universal meaning or imply a particular length of coat or much more than a general idea and picture that may differ from person to person and shop to shop.
Those terms may mean something different to you as well as any groomer or other individual you are speaking to. Summer cut or puppy cut may be one thing in your mind, one thing to a previous groomer you have used, another to a new groomer and something different to your neighbor and their groomer.
